EAST PEORIA, Ill., June 16 (UPI) -- Three people, including a gunman, died Saturday night in a shooting at a high school reunion outside an East Peoria, Ill., sports bar, police said.
Lance E. Griffel, 36, and Lori A. Moore, 33, died from gunshot wounds to the head after being transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll said.
The alleged gunman, James A. Moore, Lori Moore's ex-husband, was shot dead by an off-duty law enforcement officer at Fifth Quarter Sports Bar and Pizzeria.
"It's very difficult to say. You can play the 'what if' game over and over again, but I think it's pretty clear in his case the presence of this officer and his ability to take very quick and very decisive action prevented a further tragedy," East Peoria Police Chief Ganschow said.
Police said James Moore burst into the bar and fired off two rounds, shooting both Griffel and Lori Moore in the head. The 1999 class of East Peoria Community High School was holding a reunion at the time.
No other injuries were reported.
Court records indicate Lori Moore filed for divorce from Jason Moore in March 2013. Lori Moore and Griffel were dating.
