BENSALEM, Pa., June 10 (UPI) -- An escaped prisoner who stabbed a police officer in a Philadelphia suburb and stole his cruiser was quickly arrested Tuesday, officials said.
Matthew Miller, 23, who was serving a sentence for misdemeanor theft in the Bucks County Prison, now faces charges that include assaulting a police officer.
Bensalem Public Safety Director Fred Harran said Miller was on work release. A Bensalem police officer found him walking along a road and tried to apprehend him.
Miller allegedly stabbed the officer in the stomach. But the knife was turned aside by his bullet-proof vest, and the attack caused no serious injury.
After the officer aimed a Taser at Miller, he jumped into the squad car and drove away. He was arrested after he ditched the car about 2 miles away, just across the Philadelphia line.
