Plane crashes into Louisiana McDonald's parking lot

The pilot of a small plane was injured when it crashed near a McDonald's on Tuesday morning.

MONROE, La., June 3 (UPI) -- A small plane crashed into the parking lot of a McDonald's in Monroe, La., on Tuesday morning.

An eyewitness told the Shreveport Times that the plane, a Beechcraft Bonanza, clipped several trees before crashing.

"Part of the plane is up against the McDonald's sign post and it looks like maybe one car was damaged. The plane broke apart but it doesn't seem like any other major damage to any facilities around," said airport manager Ron Phillips.

Monroe Regional Airport is across the street from the crash sight.

The Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office said in a statement that the plane's lone occupant, the pilot, had been airlifted to the LSU Shreveport hospital to receive treatment for a head injury.

There was no information on his condition.
