CLEARWATER BEACH, Fla., May 26 (UPI) -- Memorial Day beachgoers were interrupted by a series of shootings in Clearwater Beach, Fla., in which two people were injured.
Police have eight people in custody, according to WTSP, in relation to the incidents that began outside the Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa around 6:45 p.m.
Clearwater Public Safety Spokesperson Joelle Castelli told News 13 that an altercation erupted between two groups of people in the parking garage of the hotel, before it moved to two other nearby areas.
Castelli said Monday that police were still trying to determine what happened.
"Even as we speak, we're trying to search and clear out rooms of the hotel," Castelli said. "We're trying to clear out [floors) of the parking garage]. There are different places south of the Hyatt where we've had shootings, so we're trying to make sure everything is back to normal and safe."
One of the injured was reportedly shot in the hand, though he fled the scene without treatment. Another was taken to the hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to the groin.
