CHESTER, Pa., May 16 (UPI) -- The mayor's wife in Chester, one of Pennsylvania's poorest cities, got a personal experience of crime when three men stole her car as she returned home.

Deena Linder told police the carjacking occurred at about 10 p.m. Wednesday. She said three men, at least one of them armed, ordered her to get out of the car and then drove off.

"It's very upsetting, it's something no one should ever have to go through," Linder told WCAU-TV. "I just thank God I came through it."

Police found the car in Chester and arrested three suspects at a house near where it was parked.

Mayor John Linder said he believes the crime was random.

"She happened to be coming back at the same time that they happened to be coming down the street and that was it," he said.

Chester, a few miles down river from Philadelphia on the Delaware, is a former industrial powerhouse where almost one in four residents now have incomes below the poverty line.
