FAYETTEVILLE, N.C., May 15 (UPI) -- A man long suspected in the disappearance of a soldier stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina was charged with murder after her body was found.

Kelli Bordeaux, 23, vanished in April 2012. Investigators said her body was discovered Wednesday not far from Froggy Bottoms, the Fayetteville bar where she was last seen.

Nicholas Holbert, 27, a convicted sex offender, was charged with murder and kidnapping Wednesday. Holbert told a local TV station in 2012 that he had given Bordeaux a ride from the bar but dropped her off near her home.

Fayetteville Police Chief Harold Medlock said Holbert was with the police officers who found Bordeaux's body in deep woods.

"It was specific information from Holbert that took us to that location today," Medlock said at a news conference.

Bordeaux joined the Army in 2011 after graduating from St. Cloud High School in the Orlando, Fla., area. She was an emergency medical technician and private first class.

Bordeaux was declared dead last year to allow her family to get benefits. Her step-grandmother, Marian Henson, told the Orlando Sentinel she had mixed feelings about the discovery of her body.
