Police search for California fire battalion chief after fiancee found dead

Police search for veteran CalFire officer after fiancée's body found in the home they shared.

SACRAMENTO, May 2 (UPI) -- A California fire battalion chief is believed to have killed the fiancée with whom he shared a home, officials said Friday.

The body of Sarah Jane Douglas, 26, was discovered Thursday morning at a house in Sacramento County. Orville Douglas, 55, an instructor at the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection academy in Ione, was missing.

Lisa Bowman, a spokeswoman for the county sheriff, said that Douglas's CalFire pickup truck was found empty in nearby Elk Grove. Neighbors said they spotted the truck early Thursday.

Fleming is a 24-year veteran of CalFire.
