3 dead in Oklahoma, Arkansas as tornadoes strike central U.S.

Severe weather swept through the central states on Sunday.

OKLAHOMA CITY, April 27 (UPI) -- Two people died when a tornado touched down in Quapaw, Okla., on Sunday, as meteorologists warned of severe weather, large hail, damaging winds and possible tornadoes in a large swath of the central United States from Nebraska to Louisiana.

The Oklahoma Emergency Management Agency's Keli Cain also said that parts of Quapaw suffered serious damage, while Highway Patrol reported additional injuries.

KATV confirmed the death of a third person in Mayflower, Ark., where a tornado reportedly caused extensive damage to homes and other buildings.

The National Weather Service also urged residents of Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Mississippi, Kansas and Louisiana to brace for extreme weather through Sunday night and into Monday.
