MOORE, Okla., April 8 (UPI) -- Westboro Baptist Church members were chased out of town after residents stood against their picket saying a tornado that ravaged the town was "God's wrath."

The group, known for their hateful attitudes, showed up at the Central Junior High School in Moore on Sunday to picket with their trademark "God hates fags" signs. They then proceeded to yell that the tornado that devastated the town was an example of "God's wrath."

The residents of Moore did not take well to the implication that they deserved the natural disaster that destroyed their town, and began to cross the picket line. The church had a permit to picket for half an hour, but once they saw the people crossing the picket line, they raced to their vehicles after only 8 minutes.

"It’s just sickening. You know, it’s just innocent kids that lost lives and it’s sickening for them to even think that way," said Amanda Eccles said to KFOR-TV.

Moore police contained the situation and said, despite the tension, the town's residents were "relatively respectful."
