A parking garage collapsed in downtown Los Angeles on Friday as construction workers worked on building the structure.

The workers were in the middle of pouring concrete around 6:30 a.m. PST when one worker heard a strange sound and ordered to evacuate the construction area, the Los Angeles Times reported.

It was about that time that a portion of the garage came down, Metro spokesman Paul Gonzales said.

"All the safety procedures worked as designed," he said, and no one was injured. All 180 workers were accounted for.

The garage, once constructed, would have taken up about half a city block on Keller Street.

“This is going to need to be investigated,” Gonzales said. “Our target time to complete this was this summer -- so that will be delayed.”
