HARTFORD, Conn., March 28 (UPI) -- Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy announced Friday he would run for a second term this fall with Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman.

The first-term Democrat will be challenged by Lee Whitnum, a former U.S. Senate and House candidate best known for her strong criticisms of the U.S.'s ties with Israel. And on the Republican side, a Quinnipiac University poll shows businessman Tom Foley has a strong lead over his fellow GOP candidates.

Mallow narrowly defeated Foley for the governorship in 2010.
