Teen climbs 1 World Trade Center, hangs out on roof for 2 hours

A New Jersey teen was arrested early Sunday after he slipped past guards and climbed to the spire of 1 World Trade Center.

Justin Casquejo, 16, defied the supposedly impenetrable security at the former Ground Zero, crawling through a fence around 4 a.m. Sunday and, despite having no identification, got an elevator operator to take him to the 88th floor. From there, he climbed to the 104th floor, passed a sleeping guard, got out onto the roof and climbed to to the antenna.

Casquejo spent two hours atop the skyscraper -- the country's tallest building at 1,776 feet -- and was only caught when he was spotted by a construction worker on the way down.

“I walked around the construction site and figured out how to access the Freedom Tower rooftop,” he said, according to court papers.

That the teen was able to easily slip through what was supposed to be a "ring of steel" around the high-profile construction site has raised concerns. Four different layers of security -- the Port Authority Police, the NYPD and two private security companies -- all failed to catch him.

And while the snoozing guard on the top floor has been fired, the elevator operator was allowed to keep his job because of his union, but was reassigned.

Casquejo faces misdemeanor trespassing, but the teen doesn't seem overly concerned. He summed up his adventure in a single word on Twitter Wednesday:
