You might recognize Kevin Trudeau from a series of informercials hawking his Natural Cures weight-loss program, despite a 2004 federal court order prohibiting from making false claims in his books.
Trudeau was convicted of criminal contempt last year -- after a 45-minute jury deliberation -- when prosecutors said that the 51-year-old continued to star in commercials despite the order.
U.S. District Judge Ronald Guzman was highly critical of Trudeau when he handed down a 10-year jail sentence in Chicago on Monday.
Guzman described Trudeau as "deceitful to the core."
"Since the age of 25, he has steadfastly attempted to cheat others for his own individual gain," Guzman told the court. "He has treated federal court orders as if they were merely suggestions ... to be mistreated, side-stepped or ignored."
Trudeau said he had learned from his brief time in jail last year.
"I wish I could turn back the clock and never made the statements I made in the infomercials. Making those statements were a mistake and I am sorry," he said.
Trudeau's lawyer has said he plans to appeal.
