SXSW crash witness: Music too loud to hear car barreling through crowd

There's a chance the music being played outside an Austin club Thursday morning may have been so loud, the crowd gathered on Red River may not have heard a car crash through a police barricade.

Rashad Charjuan Owens, 22, was charged Friday with capital murder in the deaths of two people he allegedly killed as he crashed his vehicle through a crowd gathered at The Mohawk Club for the South By Southwest music festival.

He also faces 23 counts of aggravated assault for allegedly injuring 23 people in the incident.

Now Houston-born music producer and musician Nic Brem said that even though he was standing near the accident site, he initially didn't hear the crash over the sound of music, the Houston Chronicle reported.

"I literally turned around and saw people scattered everywhere, but it was weird because I didn't hear anything because of the music," he said.
