Earthquake shakes Northern California

EUREKA, Calif., March 10 (UPI) -- A 6.9-magnitude earthquake shook the coast of Northern California on Sunday night, the biggest quake the area has seen since a 7.2 in 2010.

At least 13 aftershocks followed the large tremblor, one reaching 4.6 magnitude, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The primary earthquake took place at 10:18 PDT about 50 miles west of Eureka, Calif. It was at a depth of four miles.

There were no reports of significant damage or injuries, Eureka Police Department Sgt. Brian Stephens said.

"My car was rocking back and forth," he said. "I thought someone was shoving my car back and forth, looked around and nobody was there. Then I realized what was happening."
