Woman sues, saying she became blind during botched plastic surgery

SAN DIEGO, March 6 (UPI) -- An injured woman says she was not told the surgeon who performed breast reduction and a tummy tuck had been dismissed from a University of California residency.

In a lawsuit filed in San Diego Wednesday, Jennifer Finlan said she is now blind in both eyes because of the botched procedure, Courthouse News Service reported Thursday. She named Dr. Sean Darcy, seven other doctors, New Image Cosmetic Surgery and two hospitals as defendants.

Finlan said in court papers she was told Darcy had performed more than 50 operations like the one she wanted. She only learned later he had been dismissed from a plastic surgery residency at the University of California Irvine medical school because of poor performance and bad test scores.

In fact, she said, the day of her operation, Nov. 19, 2012, Darcy signed court documents for his appeal of the dismissal.

Finlan also said she was told the procedure, which included liposuction along with the tummy tuck and breast reduction, would take six hours but it actually took eight.
