First responders greet cancer victim, 7, on his birthday

BURRILLVILLE, R.I., March 6 (UPI) -- Tyler Seddon, 7, fighting cancer, became the police chief of Burrillville, R.I., for a day Thursday as hundreds of first responders greeted him on his birthday.

His birthday party included a ride past hundreds of emergency personnel and their vehicles from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Maine, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire, who traveled to honor the boy who loves all things law enforcement, the Boston Globe said.

Tyler was diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukemia four years ago and recovered, but was hospitalized with a relapse in November.

He was taken to Burrilville's police station where, in uniform, he was sworn in as police chief. His first words in an address to his officers were "Be safe out there," the newspaper said.
