PALO ALTO, Calif., March 5 (UPI) -- Facebook announced that they would be making it harder to post and sell guns on the social media website in response to pressure over lax gun trading regulation.
In February, the non-profit group Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America publicly shamed Facebook for their loose regulations of gun trading groups on the social media website. Facebook has responded to that outrage and said that they are making changes accordingly.
Those changes include blocking anyone under 18 from viewing postings relating to gun sales, and removing any sales posts that do not require a background check or cross state lines. The regulations will extend to Instagram, where someone searching with a hashtag relating to guns will be notified of gun laws through a pop-up advisory.
Gun rights activists are up in arms about it, saying that they are being unfairly targeted and their rights are being restricted. They have already started a petition to repeal the new regulations.
