Bear attacks man at Florida mobile-home park

SORRENTO, Fla., Feb. 28 (UPI) -- A Florida woman says a bear attacked her husband in a mobile-home park in Lake County.

The attack occurred Thursday night in Oak Springs mobile-home park near Sorrento as Josh Hennessy, 36, was sitting outside his father's mobile, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported.

Hennessy heard a rustling in nearby bushes and when he went to see what it was, the bear attacked him and dragged him to the street, said his wife, Courtney Allstead-Hennessy, 33.

"I guess he startled it," she said.

The victim suffered bite marks on his side and road rash from rolling in the street while trying to fight off the bear, his wife said. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission investigators searched the scene late Thursday.

"We don't really know what happened yet," agency spokesman Greg Workman said.

Park resident Mike Henslee said he wasn't surprised to hear about the bear attack because "a bunch of idiots out here" feed the animals so they can take pictures of them.

"We see bears here all the time," Henslee said. "A big boy was in our garbage two nights ago."
