400 gather for 'Detroit's Largest Selfie'

DETROIT, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- More than 400 Detroit residents gathered at the Detroit Institute of Arts to take "selfies" as part of a series of events called "Detroit Week," organizers say.

The event, which took place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, was billed as "Detroit's Largest Selfie," the Detroit Free Press reported.

A photographer stood atop a 10-foot-tall ladder to take a picture of the group, who posed with their smartphones as if taking self-portraits.

Delane Parnell, one of the organizers, said Detroit Week is aimed at bringing attention to entrepreneurship and innovation in Detroit.

Most other events during the week are networking meet-ups.

Parnell said the hope is to make Detroit Week an annual tradition.
