U.S. Rep Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., hospitalized for hip surgery

PHOENIX, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., plans to keep working and traveling in his district following hip surgery Friday, a spokesman says.

Spokesman Garrett Hawkins said Gosar's doctors indicate he will have to remain in Arizona for as long as 20 days after the surgery, the Arizona Republic reported.

Gosar will be in "constant contact with his staff" throughout the day and intends to participate in policy and conference meetings by phone, Hawkins said.

Gosar said on his Facebook page his hips had been damaged by years of playing rugby in college and dental school.

Preparation for the surgery caused him to miss several votes in Congress this week, he noted, including one to raise the nation's debt limit, an action he said he opposed.
