PITTSBURGH, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Pittsburgh-area police trying to determine the source of a type of fentanyl-laced heroin that has caused 22 overdose deaths say they have made several arrests.
Four arrests were made in three cases this week as police investigate the appearance of heroin in the Pittsburgh area in bags labeled "Bud Ice" and "Theraflu."
Police also said they seized 1,500 small plastic bags labeled "Bud Ice" in a Sunday raid on a home in the suburban Pittsburgh community of Homestead Sunday and were looking for two suspects in that case, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Thursday.
Pittsburgh police arrested Christopher Howard, 21, at a supermarket Wednesday after he allegedly sold heroin labeled "Theraflu" to an undercover officer. They later searched his apartment and allegedly found five bricks of heroin and an assault rifle, KDKA-TV, Pittsburgh, reported.
In the Pittsburgh suburb of Zelienople, police arrested April Operman, 41, after responding to an overdose call and questioning the woman who allegedly purchased heroin from Operman, KDKA-TV said.
Police allegedly found 18 bags of heroin, stamped "Theraflu," in Operman's apartment, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said.
In another Pittsburgh case, police said they arrested Clayton McCray, 19, no home town provided, and Frederick Knight Jr., 20, of Carrick after allegedly finding them with heroin and marijuana on them after pulling over McCray for driving with a suspended license when he left a house investigators had under surveillance, the Tribune-Review said.
Police said they found more heroin, cash and weapons in the house.
