WASHINGTON, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Sunday the U.S. healthcare reform law known as Obamacare was "worth it, no matter what happens politically."

In an appearance on ABC's "This Week," Carney responded to results from an ABC poll that found that 59 percent of the United States disapproved of how the Affordable Care Act was implemented.

"It is absolutely worth it, not matter what happens politically," even if that means losing the Senate, he said.

"I just disagree that Republicans are going to have a winning issue on this, if they decide to run on it, because they've got to explain what repeal means," he said.

Carney said another key issue for which Republicans are criticizing President Barack Obama, income inequality, is a challenge "in the making for over 30 years."
