Man, 88, arrested in shooting of wife in Carson City, Nev., hospital

CARSON CITY, Nev., Jan. 20 (UPI) -- A woman sustained life-threatening injuries when she was shot in the chest at a hospital, Carson City, Nev., sheriff's officials said. Her husband was arrested.

Law enforcement officials said William Dresser, 88, was booked on a charge of attempted murder with a deadly weapon and held on $225,000 bail, CarsonNow.org reported Sunday. He was under a suicide watch.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said the woman was airlifted from the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center in Carson City to a hospital in Reno,

The name of the victim was not released.

"Although the incident was immediately confined to the patient's room, the Carson hospital was placed in lockdown, which remained in effect for approximately 2 hours," the sheriff's office said in a statement. "It has been determined that the suspect's wife was in the hospital for an injury previously incurred. No foul play was previously suspected."
