TACOMA, Wash., Jan. 17 (UPI) -- A convicted felon in Washington state faces firearm possession charges after he was seen on a television program firing a rifle, court documents said.
Tyler Smith, 26, was arrested at his Pierce Country, Wash., home Wednesday. A 10-month investigation was launched after neighbors complained about a television crew at his home, filming a National Geographic Channel episode of the survivalist program "Doomsday Preppers," the (Tacoma) News Tribune reported Friday.
The program was broadcast in November 2013.
On Thursday, Smith was charged with two counts of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. He pleaded not guilty.
Smith initially denied owning or handling any guns, but when confronted with the video footage "claimed he was not firing the rifles, and it was edited" to imply he fired them, court documents said.
Smith pleaded guilty in 2009 to communicating with a minor for immoral purposes after inappropriately touching a drunken 14-year-old girl, and pleaded guilty to first-degree theft in 2009 for failing to pay for a motorcycle he purchased, the newspaper said.
