Virginia couple allegedly killed two, lived with dead bodies in home

CHESAPEAKE, Va., Jan. 7 (UPI) -- A man and his girlfriend killed his mother and her boyfriend in July and lived with the bodies in the house for three days, a Chesapeake, Va., court heard.

Ryan Martinez, 35, and Airika Liljegren, 38, are accused of murder and body concealment in the July deaths of Martinez's mother Cindy Jensen-Ellet, 59, and her boyfriend Anthony Barone, 59.

Police testimony in General District Court Monday said Liljegren told police she stabbed Jensen-Ellet to death in the kitchen of the home they shared in Chesapeake, and left the body on the kitchen floor for days before moving it to the garage.

Liljegren confessed to killing Jensen-Ellet, but claimed self-defense, the testimony said.

Martinez is suspected of shooting Barone to death. Barone was found by police in an upstairs closet under a pile of laundry, the (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot reported Tuesday.

A co-worker of Jensen-Ellet asked police to check on the couple after Jensen-Ellet and Barone, each a registered nurse at local hospitals, failed to report to work, the newspaper said.
