SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., Jan. 2 (UPI) -- A California man will face charges for allegedly fatally stabbing his ex-wife and 6-year-old daughter, police say.
Jordan Sartario, 48, of San Bernardino, called police early Wednesday to report that he had tried to commit suicide after fatally stabbing his ex-wife, Miraflor Sartario, 51, and daughter, Jira, the (Riverside, Calif.) Press-Enterprise reported.
The suspect allegedly got into an argument with his ex-wife, then stabbed her, San Bernardino police Lt. Brian Tully said. Jira walked in on the scene after hearing her mother scream and Sartario turned the knife on her as well, Tully said.
Then Sartario attempted to kill himself before calling police and asking for medical help.
He was scheduled to undergo surgery for injuries on his wrists Wednesday. Once he is released from the hospital, he will be arrested on suspicion of two counts of murder, police said.
Neighbors said they were shocked to hear the news of what happened and that they never heard the couple, who lived in the same home for about a year and a half, arguing.
"I'm just blown away. It's so shocking and sad," said Veronica Crafton, who lives nearby. "My heart breaks."
