FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla., Dec. 26 (UPI) -- A Florida teenager has been arrested and charged in the killing of his mother on Christmas Eve, authorities said.

William Brandon Aydelott, 17, was arrested Tuesday night and charged with premeditated murder for the death of his mother, Sharon Aydelott, who was found stabbed and beaten to death in her home Tuesday evening, the Northwest Florida Daily News, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., reported.

Police were called to the Aydelotts' home at about 6 p.m. Tuesday, where they found an open front door with blood smeared on it. Inside, officers found Sharon Aydelott's body, lying in a pool of blood.

William Aydelott apparently fled the scene, but was found by police three hours later at a nearby residence where he had been living since September. He was arrested without resistance.

During police questioning Aydelott allegedly admitted to the slaying, the newspaper said.

Sharon Aydelott taught sixth and seventh grades at Holley-Navarre Middle School. Tim Wyrosdick, superintendent of Santa Rosa County schools, said a crisis support system has already been set up to help Aydelott's co-workers and students deal with her killing.
