Police shoot, kill man suspected of two overnight arsons

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Police in Los Angeles Thursday fatally shot a man suspected of setting fires at his mother's home and his ex-girlfriend's apartment, authorities said.

Police found 19-year-old Asa James Dolak armed with a knife and hiding in the women's restroom at Madrona Middle School, KNBC-TV, Los Angeles, reported.

Dolak had blood on him and appeared to be injured when police found him. A foot pursuit ensued at about 1:35 p.m., after which Dolak was shot.

Dolak allegedly entered his ex-girlfriend's apartment in the 16700 block of South Crenshaw Boulevard at 12:15 a.m., threatened to kill her, then set a fire. The girlfriend escaped, and firefighters rescued a 2-year-old boy who was treated at a hospital for smoke inhalation and was in stable condition, police told the TV station.

At about 2 a.m., Dolak allegedly set fire to his mother's home in the 3200 block of Opal Street.
