Foster child spends Christmas with possible new family

NEW YORK, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Davion Only, a 15-year-old Florida foster child who went public with his desire for a permanent family, is spending Christmas in a potential new home.

Davion spoke at a Florida church in September and appeared on ABC's "The View." He had one message: "Adopt me."

"I'll take anyone," Davion. "Old or young, dad or mom, black, white, purple -- I don't care."

Nancy Eckard Nichols, an adoption worker involved in finding a home for Davion, said his plea brought in 100,000 inquiries from people interested in him. She called Davion "a hero" for making people more aware of the need for adoptive parents for children in foster care.

"We told them there was a Davion in every city," Nichols told ABC.

Nichols said Davion's Christmas visit is only a start in what could be a lengthy process.

"Any adoption process is a delicate dance of trust before it can be finalized -- and what the adoptions agency calls a 'step-by-step progression.' And this is the first step," she said.
