Zimmerman's attorney asks that his client be allowed to see girlfriend

APOPKA, Fla., Dec. 10 (UPI) -- A Florida judge was asked to allow the man acquitted in the death of an unarmed black teen to see his girlfriend who wants domestic violence charges dropped.

Court documents indicate George Zimmerman's defense lawyer asked a judge to allow his client to see his girlfriend, who recanted domestic violence allegations that led to his arrest last month, the Orlando Sentinel reported Monday.

"I want to be with George," Zimmerman's girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, said in a sworn statement that accompanied the motion.

"I do not want George Zimmerman charged," Scheibe said in the statement. "I make this decision freely, knowingly and voluntarily, without any intimidation coercion or undue influences."

Zimmerman was arrested after Scheibe called 911 Nov. 18 during an argument at the Apopka home the two shared. Zimmerman was arrested on several charges, including aggravated assault, after authorities said Scheibe claimed he pointed a gun at her.

Her new statement disputes the original account, the Sentinel said.

"I believe that the police misinterpreted me and that I may have misspoken about certain facts in my statement to the police," she said. "George never pointed a gun at or toward my face in a threatening manner."

Rather, she said, it was the Seminole County deputies who "intimidated her," Scheibe said, noting she wasn't "afraid of George in any manner" and wants to be with him.

She also asked that the Seminole County State Attorney's Office "not be allowed to harass me" because she didn't want to participate in the state's prosecution of Zimmerman.

Chris White, lead prosecutor in Seminole County, said his office would evaluate the affidavit to determine whether to proceed.

Zimmerman, in hiding since he was acquitted of murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, was ordered last month to stay away from his girlfriend and her home. The motion asks his judge to remove that prohibition.
