BRIDGEWATER, N.J., Dec. 9 (UPI) -- A waitress who claimed a couple declined to tip her because of her alleged gay lifestyle is no longer employed at the New Jersey restaurant, it announced.
Former Marine Dayna Morales achieved notoriety when she sent a copy of a receipt from a customer of the Bridgewater, N.J., Gallop Asian Bistro with the notation, "I'm sorry but I cannot tip because I do not agree with your lifestyle" to a national gay rights organization. Tips from all over the country were sent her as a result of the publicity, the news website philly.com reported Monday.
Morales and the restaurant have parted ways after an "internal investigation," the restaurant said on its Facebook page during the weekend, adding, "We wish her well in the future."
The story, though, has gotten murkier. WNBC-TV, New York, tracked down the customers, a couple who insisted they did not write the notation on the check for the meal, and had indeed left a tip.
The unidentified couple added they are not anti-gay, and in fact voted against New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie for his stand on same-sex marriage.
Morales has stuck to her story, philly.com said.
