Sandusky's pension appeal set for January

HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Arguments in convicted child sex abuser Jerry Sandusky's attempt to keep a state pension will be heard in January, the pension agency said Tuesday.

Sandusky, 69, a former Penn State assistant football coach, was convicted in June 2012 of abusing 10 boys over 15 years. The Pennsylvania State Employees' Retirement System later moved to revoke his $59,000 annual pension, noting his conviction triggered the pension's forfeiture, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported.

An attorney for Sandusky argued his client, who retired in 1999, was not a university employee when the toughened forfeiture rules went into effect in 2004.

Sandusky, currently in prison, will appear at the Jan. 7 hearing in Harrisburg through closed-circuit television, a public notice said.
