TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 26 (UPI) -- A family of five was being housed by the Red Cross after a possible deep sinkhole opened up underneath their Tampa, Fla., home, officials said.
The hole opened up under the Sotto family's home just after 7:30 p.m. EST Monday, WFTS-TV, Tampa, reported.
"There was a sound and the floor started coming out like a mountain," said Yanet Batista, a relative. "[The police] said sinkhole. That's why they don't let nobody go back in."
The family, which includes a newborn and an 8-year-old, were evacuated from the home and were being housed by the Red Cross.
An insurance assessor had warned the Sottos they had a sinkhole under their property six months ago, WFTS said.
"They say it was 100 percent a sinkhole but they didn't want to do nothing," Batista added.
