NEWTOWN, Conn., Nov. 26 (UPI) -- A judge in Connecticut Tuesday set a Dec. 4 deadline for releasing the 911 tapes from the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.
New Britain Superior Court Judge Eliot Prescott denied a motion by Danbury State's Attorney Stephen Sedensky III that the tapes not be released, The Hartford Courant reported.
The Freedom of Information Commission had ordered Newtown police in September to release the tapes of 911 calls made from inside the school during the Dec. 14, 2012, attack by gunman Adam Lanza that killed 20 children and six school staff members, ruling unanimously the calls were not exempt from mandatory disclosure. Sedensky had objected to that decision and appealed through the courts.
The Courant said Sedensky stated in an email he is "reviewing the judge's decision and once that review is complete will determine what action he will take."
The judge's order came the day after the release of a report by Sedensky that found Lanza "acted alone and was solely criminally responsible" for the massacre but failed to determine his motive other than noting he was obsessed with the Columbine school shooting in Colorado. Lanza, 20, also killed his mother and himself.
