MILLBORO, Va., Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Virginia state Sen. Creigh Deeds was discharged from a hospital Friday, three days after his son stabbed him multiple times before committing suicide.
Deeds, 55, was flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville Tuesday morning after the incident with his son left him in critical condition.
Police said Deeds' son, Austin C. "Gus" Deeds, 24, attacked him outside their home in rural Millboro before going back inside the house to kill himself with a rifle.
The older Deeds suffered stab wounds to his head and chest. He managed to walk 75 feet to the end of his driveway where he was picked up by his cousin who brought him to the hospital, The Roanoke (Va.) Times reported.
