WASHINGTON, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Willie Robertson of A&E's popular "Duck Dynasty" reality series has endorsed Vance McAllister in his congressional bid against Louisiana state Sen. Niel Riser.
McAllister, a Republican Louisiana businessman, squares off Saturday against Riser, also a Republican, in a special election in the state's 5th Congressional District, Roll Call reported.
Former Rep. Rodney Alexander resigned during the summer to take a job in Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal's administration.
Riser has parlayed his anti-Obamacare message, support from U.S. House leadership and fundraising skills into a solid front-runner status.
Meanwhile, McAllister has been using the Robertson family, whose business is in the district, in his campaign. Willie Robertson's endorsement will run through Saturday.
McAllister's campaign has focused on his outsider status as what's needed in Washington, a message that propelled McAllister past 12 other candidates from both parties in an Oct. 16 open primary.
