Alec Baldwin cries on stand as he testifies at alleged stalker's trial

NEW YORK, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Actor Alec Baldwin cried on the witness stand Tuesday as the trial of his accused stalker opened in New York City.

Baldwin, who denied having an affair with Canadian actress Genevieve Sabourin, got emotional as he described how she came to his house the Hamptons the day he proposed to his current wife, Hilaria, the New York Daily News reported.

"I ran to tell my wife not to go near the door because I wasn't sure if she had a gun or a weapon or where we were at this point, and then I called the East Hampton police," he said.

Sabourin, 41, called out at times during Baldwin's testimony, crying "No, no" when Baldwin said he had dinner with her to give her "career advice." Baldwin said Sabourin was the longtime mistress of producer Marty Bregman and the dinner was a favor to his friend.

Bregman told the News he did not have an affair with Sabourin.

"I'm 87 years old and that's very flattering, but that's all it is," Bregman said.

Sabourin, who faces one count of stalking and more than 20 of harassment, says she had an affair with Baldwin and the stalking accusation was aimed at hiding the relationship from Hilaria. Sabourin is expected to testify Wednesday.

Baldwin, known for prickly outbursts, was angry with photographers who ambushed him outside the courthouse. Sabourin stopped and chatted with reporters, arriving late in the courtroom.

The most famous of the Baldwin brothers, Baldwin, 55, has been acting for more than 30 years. His career got a shot in the arm with his role as Jack Donaghy in the sitcom "30 Rock."
