(UPI) -- Secretary of State John Kerry said Monday that Iran was to blame for not signing an agreement during negotiations held in Geneva over the weekend, where diplomatic officials from Iran and six countries met.

After France took much criticism from Iranian officials, Kerry commented this Monday that the United States was also unhappy with the demands the Islamic nation made in order to sign the agreement. “The French signed off on it; we signed off on it.”

After meeting with United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Sheikh Abullah bin Zayed al-Nahayan, the Secretary of State said “this is not a race to complete just any agreement. No deal is better than a bad deal”.

Despite the end of the negotiations with no agreement, Kerry hoped to reach a deal in a near future and new talks are scheduled for November 20. Britain’s Foreign Secretary, William Hague, seemed to be on the same page, assuring that “these negotiations have made good progress and continue to make good progress, but there are still important issues to resolve.”

Later this week, Secretary of State Kerry is expected to brief members of the Senate on his diplomatic efforts regarding Iran.
