Obama notes 75th anniversary of Kristallnacht, asks end to intolerance

WASHINGTON, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama, on the 75th anniversary of Kristallnacht, "The Night of Broken Glass," called Friday for an end to anti-Semitism and intolerance.

A White House statement noted on the nights of Nov. 9-10, 1938, Nazi paramilitary groups marched under cover of darkness throughout Germany and Austria, destroying and vandalizing thousands of Jewish businesses and homes, burning books and vandalizing synagogues.
