Kwame Kilpatrick's lawyer files notice of appeal

DETROIT, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's lawyer has filed a notice he plans to appeal his corruption conviction.

The notice lawyer Harold Gurewitz filed Wednesday does not describe the basis of the appeal, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Kilpatrick was sentenced to 28 years in federal prison Oct. 10. His longtime friend Bobby Ferguson got 21 years for conspiring with Kilpatrick on a bribery, bid-rigging and extortion scheme and his father, Bernard, 15 months for tax evasion.
