Police say man shoots and kills 4, then himself in Phoenix townhouses

PHOENIX, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- A man shot and killed four people and two dogs in a unit of a townhouse complex in Phoenix before apparently killing himself in another townhouse, police said.

Phoenix Police spokesman Tommy Thompson said officers found the bodies of two men, a woman, a teenage boy and two dogs in one townhome when they answered an emergency call Saturday, KNXV-TV, Phoenix, reported.

Thompson said officers entered a second home and found the body of a man thought to be the gunman. Police said the man, estimated to be in his 50s, died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

What prompted the shooting was unclear, officials said. However, neighbors told The Arizona Republic the alleged shooter was seen shooting at the dogs that were killed.

Neighbors said the shooter and victims had argued over barking dogs before.

Libni DeLeon told KNXV someone knocked at his door Saturday morning then suddenly began shooting through his front door.

"I ran upstairs and when I got there I got a glance at him [the suspect] and I yelled at him and he turned around and shot two more rounds upstairs."

DeLeon said his townhome had several bullet holes. He said his family was upstairs, away from danger.
