NEW YORK, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- A ninth motorcyclist was arrested and charged in the biker road rage case in which a sports utility vehicle driver was beaten in New York, court papers said.
Police said Jason Brown, 40, was arrested Monday and arraigned Tuesday on assault, weapons and criminal mischief charges in the attack on motorist Alexian Lien, CNN reported Wednesday.
On a video that went viral after the Sept. 29 incident, Brown is seen allegedly striking Lien with his helmet, court documents indicated.
"Those are serious crimes ... and serious allegations against him," Brown lawyer Stephen Pokart said. "The issue is: Do they have serious proof against him? And based on what the prosecutors offered the judge, it doesn't sound that way to me."
Authorities said Lien was chased by bikers after he bumped a biker during a rally. When his SUV was surrounded by several bikers, Lien called emergency services, telling them he feared for his life and drove away, running over and critically injuring one biker.
Lien's wife and 2-year-old daughter, who were in the SUV, were not injured.
The chase that followed ended in a traffic stall. Police say Lien's windows were smashed and he was dragged from the SUV and beaten. Lien, who has not been charged, was treated and released from a hospital.
Police haven't ruled out more arrests or charges, CNN said.
