California home vandalized in suspected hate crime

ALHAMBRA, Calif., Oct. 22 (UPI) -- The Alhambra, Calif., home of a black family was severely vandalized in what police said they are investigating as a hate crime.

Police responded Monday to a report of a residential burglary and found damaged property and racial epithets and swastikas spray-painted in every room of the home. Food was thrown throughout the house and the odor of bleach and vinegar was in the air, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.

The odor of chemicals in the home was so thick, firefighters has to treat police officers investigating the incident, KCBS-TV, Los Angeles, said.

No information about suspects was immediately available.
