Rock-toppling man filed injury suit weeks before pushing rock

GREEN RIVER, Utah, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- A man who pushed over an ancient rock formation in a Utah state park is the plaintiff in a suit claiming injuries in a 2009 car accident, court documents said.

Boy Scout leader Glenn Taylor can be seen, in a video made with a cellphone camera and uploaded to the Internet, pushing a 2,000-pound rock formation in Goblin Valley State Park until it cracked and broke.

Taylor filed a lawsuit several weeks ago claiming serious, debilitating and permanent injuries from a car crash four years ago. Alan MacDonald and his daughter Cassie MacDonald, who was the driver of the car that allegedly struck Taylor's car, say they are outraged over the video of Taylor pushing the heavy rock.

"I was surprised that the man who pushed over this 2,000-pound rock formation was the one suing me for disability," Cassie MacDonald said.

The father and daughter said they saw the video of Taylor, pushing the boulder until it rolled away but didn't realize it was the same person suing them for more than $5,000 in medical costs.

During a September 2009 rainstorm, Cassie MacDonald was driving a car that slid into four other cars, including Taylor's, KSL-TV, Salt Lake City, reported. No one else involved, she said, reported injuries or filed a suit.

"Only Mr. Taylor knows why it took four years to file a lawsuit," she said.

A Utah State Parks representative said criminal charges against Taylor, for damaging the rock formation, are under consideration.
