The 11 people rescued, also in custody, were from Haiti and Jamaica, the Coast Guard said.

Officials said they did not know how many people were on board the vessel or if anyone else was still in the water.

The Coast Guard received a report of a capsized vessel from emergency dispatchers in Miami-Dade County around 1 a.m. EDT Wednesday, WFOR said. When rescue crews arrived at the location, they rescued 11 people from the water.

The Coast Guard said a Miami-Dade police helicopter was assisting in the search.
