Starbucks starts petition urging Congress to reopen government

WASHINGTON, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Starbucks has created an online petition calling on Congress to "reopen the government" and "pay our debts on time to avoid another financial crisis."

The petition, called "Come Together," was posted on Thursday, CNNMoney reported.

"Our leaders need to lead, and we need a better solution in Washington, D.C.," Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz said in a video posted on the Starbucks website. "I don't pretend that both parties are equally to blame for this crisis. But, I do think they are equally responsible for leading us to a solution."

The petition asks Congress members to "reopen our government to serve the people" and "pay our debts on time to avoid another financial crisis," as well as "pass a bipartisan and comprehensive long-term budget deal by the end of the year."

"Sign the #ComeTogether Petition and let your voice be heard in Washington.," the coffee company tweeted Thursday.
