SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- The for-profit Corinthian Colleges Inc. was sued by California's attorney general, for false and predatory advertising and other crimes, court documents said.
A complaint was filed against the business, and its subsidiaries which operate Everest, Heald and WyoTech colleges, by California Attorney General Kamala Harris Thursday.
The complaint alleges the business intentionally targeted low-income Californians through deceptive advertising, and misrepresented school programs and graduates' job placement rates.
Corinthian Colleges also advertised course study in high-demand career categories as x-ray, dialysis and radiology technician programs, when, in fact, the school did not offer those programs, a statement from the California Attorney General's Office said.
The business also placed military seals on mailings, implying government approval of the schools, without authorization, the statement said.
Corinthian Colleges operates 111 campuses across North America under the names Everest, Heald and WyoTech, 24 of which are in California.
