SAN DIEGO, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- A Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight from San Diego to Tokyo returned to San Diego International Airport after takeoff due to a de-icing error, officials said.

Japan Airlines Flight 65 took off from the airport at 1:35 p.m. local time Wednesday but turned around shortly thereafter when the pilot received an error message regarding the plane's de-icing system, KNSD-TV, San Diego, reported Thursday.

The plane landed at the airport less than two hours later and airline mechanics repaired the system, a passenger who deplaned said passengers were told.

The 787 Dreamliner has been plagued by a series of problems, including battery fires and fuel leaks, since its debut last year. Japan Airlines is a major customer of Boeing's newest and most technologically advanced passenger jet and was among the first to fly it.
