SPRINGFIELD, N.J., Oct. 9 (UPI) -- New Jersey police said they were investigating the possible motive of a 265-pound man who tried to pass himself off as a new freshman at a high school.
Carl Walden, 25, Union Township, was arrested Tuesday after he showed up at Dayton High School in Springfield claiming to be a new kid in school named Jason Burns.
Walden was held on multiple outstanding traffic warrants after school administrators gave him a packet of forms for his parents to fill out and then called police. Police told The (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger school officials could clearly see the 6-foot-1 man was not a young teenager.
"The subject did not have any weapons, but quick thinking by school officials in calmly ushering him outside where police detectives confronted him reduced any possible threat that may have been posed," said Springfield Police Chief John Cook.
Walden was charged with criminal trespass and held on $5,000 bond pending a court appearance next week. Detectives were checking to see if he had tried anything similar at other schools in the area.
